LOGAN — A main water line broke early Saturday morning that caused flooding and a power outage in a Logan neighborhood.

Logan Police officers responded to 345 N. 100 E. after a water line was reported shooting water at 2:30 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found water shooting 30 feet in the air. The water sprayed onto a power transformer which caused it to blow a fuse. The water also sprayed onto a building south of where the line broke.

Officials from the Logan City Water Department as well as Logan Light and Power responded to the accident. It took crews about three houses to locate the shut off valve to the water line due to the layer of water and ice in the sub-zero temperatures.

As of 7 a.m. the power had still not been restored. Crews continued to chip ice from the power poles, lines, and transformer.

Severe water damage was reported at several locations including the Leilani Salon, Hastings, and two delivery vans from Grist Mill. The cost estimate due to the water damage has not been confirmed.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
