(KSL News) The state Department of Corrections has plans to expand one prison and build another facility. Utahns seem to like the idea.
The Deseret Morning News reports that according to a Dan Jones poll, 77 percent of Utahns favor expanding the prisons in Draper and Gunnison, rather than sending inmates to county jails.
Also, 77 percent support the Legislature increasing funds to enlarge the prisons.
Meanwhile, the Department of Corrections says it's trying to find a site for a medium and maximum security prison close to the Wasatch Front.
Right now the prison population grows by 240 prisoners each year.
