If you happen to be visiting family this holiday season up in Logan – or you can think of any possible excuse to head up that way – boy have I got a restaurant recommendation for you!
One of the best restaurants I’ve dined in this year was a surprising little place on Main Street in Logan called The Painted Table. The restaurant itself might be small, but the flavors and the bangs-for-your-buck at The Painted Table are huge!
It’s the creation of chef and owner Nelson Swett. And remember that name because I think you’ll be hearing a lot about him in the future. He’s a very talented guy, but also very friendly and accommodating.
There was nothing I tried at The Painted Table that I wouldn’t happily eat again and again. And that’s not really something I can say about most restaurants. One of the highlights from Chef Swett’s kitchen was his roasted winter squash-apple cider soup with toasted pumpkin seeds and a kiss of pumpkin seed oil. It was out of this world! But I also really enjoyed the big bowl of grilled mussels with orange-chipotle aioli.
The knockout dish at Logan’s Painted Table restaurant was the roasted chicken: The tender and succulent spit-roasted free range chicken came with heavenly buttermilk whipped potatoes and wilted greens … man o man it just doesn’t get any better than that.
So for a special holiday gift, it’s over the hill and through the woods to Logan’s Painted Table restaurant that I’d recommend.
