Tom Callan, KSL Newsradio There are long lines for lead testing today at the Weber County Fairgrounds, but it's not the toys that are causing the most concern.

It's the dishes, especially those decorative Christmas plates with the Santas and the Christmas trees.

"I think we ought to get rid of imported stuff from China," one lead tester said.

Using an XRF gun to detect lead, she found nearly 80 percent of the Christmas plates are caked with lead. "They were all high except one, so I will probably toss ‘em in the garbage," she said.

This man says his wife will be disappointed when he returns home with all of their fancy plates testing positive for lead. "She's not gonna like that," he said.

A lot of dishes will be tossed.

If you would like to get your dishes or other household items tested, the free-testing event is open to the public today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Weber County Fairgrounds.
