LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- At the base of the Himalayas, a Utah State University-based program has teamed with Nepalese youth to bring Internet service to the top of the World.
The Center for Open and Sustainable Learning has supported Nepal's Youth-Managed Resources Centers since 2004. The partnership has developed rural information hubs that bring access to technology, literacy classes and social services to remote locations.
The centers are run by young people between the ages of 14 and 22.
In addition, center youth directors conduct historical fieldwork, interviewing villagers about their history and knowledge. Some villagers also serve as teachers, sharing their knowledge of Nepalese culture and cooking.
