(KSL News) Criminal charges have been filed against a man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in Davis County.

Prosecutors filed those charges late Tuesday.

Court papers show David Romero has been charged with obstructing justice and leaving the scene of an accident.

The Utah Highway Patrol says Romero hit 15-year-old Chelsea Smith Peaslee with his car when she tried to cross Interstate 15 on Dec. 4 in Layton.

Investigators used a license plate and crash debris at the scene to find Romero. They say he fled the scene, tried abandoning his car and then reported it stolen.
