Grant and I were stuck with the question, "What is wrong with us?" this morning in response to several stories we're covering.

We were just appalled that someone is stealing from people waiting in waiting rooms at Primary Children's Medical Center. Can you imagine? These poor people are waiting for news of their beloved children who are sick or injured, some of them waiting through the night and falling asleep, only to wake up to discover their purses are stolen. How could someone steel from a person in such a vulnerable position?

Then there is the tragic story of the multiple shootings in Colorado. A man who wanted to spend the night at a missionary training center near Denver who was turned away decided to kill people in retaliation. Then another shooting 12 hours later at a church in Colorado Springs where another 2 people were killed before the gunman was taken down.

And on a much smaller scale, students at Penn State University dressed up as victims of the Virginia Tech massacre and took pictures of themselves to post on their Facebook pages. The students have been identified but will not face university discipline because punishment would violate their free speech rights.

Deep breaths.

We've decided to think about Christmas for awhile instead.
