The Thunderbirds (2-7, 1-1 Summit League) came to Oakland with a six-game losing streak, but won the game by dominating the post. Southern Utah outscored the bigger Golden Grizzlies 42-20 in the paint.
Nurudeen Adepoju added 18 points for the Thunderbirds, while David Baker had 15.
Erik Kangas paced the Golden Grizzlies (4-5, 1-1) with 27 points and Derick Nelson had 17, but Oakland's bench only scored five points.
