CORINNE — A man is dead after leading an officer on a chase through Box Elder County Friday and attempting to run the officer over with the man's vehicle.
A Box Elder sheriff's deputy stopped on Highway 13 just west of Brigham City at about 8 p.m. where there was a man urinating on the side of the road.
The man gave the officer a name, and when the officer went back to his vehicle to check it, the man left in his own vehicle.
"He followed him, trying to get him to stop for multiple streets in Corrinne," said Sheriff Lynn Yeates with the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office. "He attempted to run over or strike the officer's vehicle twice."
The man ended up on a dead-end street, and when the officer got out of his vehicle to talk to him, the man "punched the accelerator and tried to run over the officer, and the officer shot him," according to Yeates.
The man has not been identified. Both the officer and the man were traveling alone. The officer was not injured in the altercation.
