SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Air National Guard has appointed a new staff director -- the No. 2 official in the state organization.

Lieutenant Colonel Kurt R. Davis has been selected as director of headquarters staff.

Davis is a Brigham Young University graduate and Spanish Fork native.

He's a veteran of U.S. military operations in Iraq, Yugoslavia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bosnia and Haiti.

Davis takes over for the retiring Col. Bruce Willden.

He will oversee the 1,500 members of the Utah Air National Guard.
