SALT LAKE CITY — Teenage girls from across the state met in Salt Lake City Saturday to learn about being confident.
The Ivy Girl Academy held all-day workshops in confidence and leadership training for girls ages 12 through 18. The workshop topics varied from goal setting and personal power to grooming and dining etiquette.
Jennifer Graves, Josh Powell's sister, was the keynote speaker. Graves talked about what happened to her sister-in-law Susan Powell and two nephews who were murdered by her brother. She focused on the relationship Susan and Josh Powell had and why it was not healthy for either of them, and how that led to the murders.
"I think it's critical for everyone, not just young girls, to understand what a healthy relationship looks like and how to have one," Graves said. "It's not a skill that's been taught. You don't get it in school. Where are you going to get it?"
Graves also talked to the girls about setting boundaries in their lives and not letting any relationship get out of hand.
Upcoming events for the charity includes "Ivy Leadership Summit," held June 1.
