LEHI — Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is in Utah Friday to raise money for 4th Congressional District candidate Mia Love.

Rice, who served in the George W. Bush administration, is scheduled to speak at a $100-per-person luncheon at Thanksgiving Point. No other events are planned around her visit, according to Love campaign spokesman Brian Somers.

Love, a Republican, faces six-term Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson in one of the most hotly contested and closely watched congressional races in the country. Rice has been raising money for the group ShePAC, a national political action committee that has endorsed Love.

Rice was the first African-American woman to serve as secretary of state. If elected, Love would be the first black Republican woman in Congress.

Rice is among several big-name Republicans to stump for Love in Utah. Matheson has said they're just doing their GOP duty and it shows that Love is all about party politics while he is an independent voice for Utah. The congressman is scheduled to appear on Fox News with Neil Cavuto Friday afternoon.
