(KSL News) -- Car buyers beware! An auto industry group found most Americans aren't shopping around for good financing deals, a mistake that costs hundreds of dollars.
Customers are pretty good at researching car models, colors and safety, but most don't give a second though to financing and they end up paying more than they should. There are lots of great financing deals to be found, especially if you have good credit.
William Bradshaw, National Automobile Dealers Association: "You know there are tens of thousands of opportunities for a consumer to do that with banks, credit unions, savings and loan institutions, 21,000 new car dealerships -- so it's a very competitive business."
Experts say shorter loans mean you pay less in the long run. And don't be afraid to wheel and deal what you're willing to pay at the dealership.
