MIDVALE, Utah (AP) -- It could soon be a crime to 'light up' in Midvale.
Tomorrow, the City Council will meet to consider whether or NOT to impose a smoking ban in public places, recreation areas and the city-owned cemetery.
First-time offenders would be given an infraction. However, penalties could lead up to 90 days in jail and up to 750 dollars in fines.
The proposed smoking ban is in response to concerns over the effects of second-hand smoking.
If approved, the ban would include city-owned baseball diamonds, parks, soccer fields and any other city-owned property.
