ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- A St. George man was killed in an accident that was being investigated as a possible hit and run related to a family fight.
Jose Cruz, 25, was killed in the accident Sunday afternoon.
Police Lt. Craig Harding said it appeared Cruz might have held onto the outside of the vehicle as the driver was trying to get away from him or was just driving away.
Police said the driver was Gladys Gonzales, 24, of St. George.
Officers said she told them that the two were having an argument when Cruz jumped onto the truck, climbed down the side and onto the side step.
Gonzales said that she pulled the truck over and told him to stop or she would call the police. After the vehicle pulled away, Cruz fell and hit his head.
Harding said any charges probably would be traffic-related.
"We don't believe she intended to inflict death or injuries other than just wanting to get away," Harding said. "We'll review this information with the attorneys for any possibly criminal charges."
