Through various channels, I am finding that my earlier blog entry ("Mtn. Broadcast Blunder") has generated considerable reaction--most of it easily divisible into two categories:

a) Greg's right on!

b) Greg's just a homer who thinks the world revolves around BYU

What is lost in this categorization is that my blog entry was merely based on observations regarding the network's story selection, citing at least two instances of questionable decisions. If Utah was having the season BYU was having and the Utes were "the obvious lead," I would expect Ute fans to notice those kinds of decisions, and be equally as puzzled. My thoughts don't represent a blanket indictment of the network, just a criticism of what I saw as a curious oversight.

I am hearing that the mtn. brass (who evidently also read my blog) justified their decision to lead with Air Force by virtue of the fact that the Falcons' game was not televised and thus not available for viewing, and that their game ended their regular season.

I've been around this business for a few years, and I can't imagine any producer basing a "lead story" on those criteria--not when the alternatives were what they were that day.

The mtn. understandably bristles at even half-hearted suggestions that its people are constructing a story rundown based on BYU's unhappiness with its TV deal. But, when you stick the conference champs 12 minutes into your highlight show, and place the Cougars after a last place team facing an FCS team (CSU v. Georgia Southern), you are simply going to leave youself open to criticism.

Since we're in "dead horse" territory now, I'll leave it at that, so I can focus on more important things--like this coming weekend (hoops AND football, Friday and Saturday).
