SALT LAKE CITY — The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will perform with the Utah Symphony as a part of the Deer Valley Music Festival Aug. 10 at the Snow Park Outdoor Theater.
The choir's performance "explores the riches of the American songbook with music stretching across the spectrum of our country's own composers" according to their website.
The show begins at 7:30. Tickets for the event are available for purchase at www.ArtTix.org. The choir will have their official rehearsal at Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. with the Utah Symphony, and will permit individuals to attend the rehearsal in Park City.
Tiny Tim's 5K Fun Run for toys
Last winter, KSL followed the local charity Tiny Tim's Foundation for Kids, and their project of making small toy cars and sending them around the world to children who have never owned a toy. They made these wooden toys from donated materials, and were able to send 1,000 toy cars to Zimbabwe in time for Christmas.
Now, Tiny Tim's is holding a "What is the Price of a Smile 5K" and the 1K Fun Run in support of the cause Aug. 18 at Veterans Memorial Park in West Jordan.
Registration for the 5K is $20 and $10 for the 1K Fun Run. Pre-registration ends at midnight Aug. 8.
Copper Hills High School builds a greenhouse
Copper Hills High School students may soon be able to grow their own school lunches.
A 1,500-square-foot greenhouse is being built at Copper Hills High. A botany, science and horticulture classroom is being built alongside it for students who want to study in those fields. Another goal for the greenhouse is that the school will use the produce grown in preparation for the school's lunches
Nutrition services is also looking at the greenhouse as an opportunity to teach young men and women about the importance of growing food and tracking everything that food is exposed to, from ground to table.
Colbie Caillat and Gavin DeGraw to perform at Red Butte Garden
Two singer-songwriters will be performing on August 10 at the Red Butte Garden.

Colbie Caillat, who got her start on MySpace, and Gavin DeGraw, a platinum recording artist, are joining forces for their Midwestern tour.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30.
Students enjoy a day with the birds at aviary
Students from Copper Hills High School studied birds and their habitat Wednesday at the Tracy Aviary.
The high school's BEAR Facts is a week long science course that teaches the basics of biology, ecology, environmental science and astronomy through field studies while working with the U.S. Forest Service.
3rd phase on Sandy road project to begin
The third and final phase of the Sandy Road Construction will begin this week and will last for approximately ten weeks. The previous segments of the construction have been active for the past two years on 1300 East in Sandy.
The new project area includes Longdale Drive, extending to the Draper border. When the entire project is finished, a before-and-after traffic study of the entire five-mile length of the corridor will be used by the Utah Department of Transportation for similar projects throughout the state.

United Way launches new website for assistance
United Way of Salt Lake and United Way 211 have announced a new website, www.211ut.org, that will offer a comprehensive list of nearly 3,000 resources and services for Utahns seeking urgent assistance for people with dissabilities.
The information available on the new website features everything from emergency food pantries to rental assistance to public health clinics, child care resources, legal aid, behavioral substance and other health and human services. In addition to finding help, the new website also offers opportunities for those who want to give help and volunteer in their community.
