(KSL News) The Salt Lake County Sheriff isn't going to get funding for the re-opening of the Oxbow Jail.
Sheriff Jim Winder had asked the Salt Lake County Council for $5.9 million to re-open the facility and ease overcrowding in the jail system. He said the cost of re-opening Oxbow could be offset by housing federal prisoners, which would bring in about $2 million in revenue annually.
Council members who voted against the plan said the county needs a criminal justice master plan before they decide whether to re-open the facility.
