PARK CITY — Businesses in Park City are offering a reward to help police catch an unusual suspect. The man has been shooting buildings, windows and people with a slingshot.
Chase Bank and Sotheby's on Park Avenue are just two businesses that have dealt with windows blown out by the slingshot's marbles. And while that may not sound like the crime of the century, Park City police are worried the criminals responsible are now targeting people.
"We're having someone shoot windows out of commercial buildings, as well as at moving vehicles," Park City Police Chief Wade Carpenter said Thursday.
The chief said at least six buildings or stationary vehicles have been shot with marbles over the past four months.
It's become increasingly worse. In fact, we've had them out on I-80.

But the crimes escalated from vandalism to assault this past weekend, when the the assailant stopped shooting at empty cars and buildings and started shooting at people. That's the reason why police want to find who is responsible.
"It's become increasingly worse," Carpenter said. "In fact, we've had them out on I-80, we've had them on the freeway."
Recently, the criminals shattered the windshield of a Park City police vehicle and injured the driver of a cement truck when shattered glass flew in his face.
Authorities are sending the marbles they've located to a crime lab to see if any evidence or fingerprints can be found. And while no one has been seriously injured yet, police aren't taking any chances.
"We're worried we're going to have a serious accident or have somebody killed if we don't get it stopped," Carpenter said.
