PROVO, Utah (AP) - Provo police are urging residents to take extra precautions after 25 bicycles were reported stolen in the previous two weeks.

Police say 144 bicycle thefts have been reported in the city since May 1.

Residents are cautioned not to leave bikes unattended, to use a high-quality lock and to keep garage doors closed. Police also say residents should keep their bicycle's serial number on file and register bikes with the city.

Provo Police will be offering free bike registration at the annual National Night Out Against Crime event August 7 at three different locations.
