OGDEN — Ogden police are still working to find who caused a fast-moving fire at the mouth of Ogden Canyon earlier this week.

The fire started at 6:30 a.m. July 3 and quickly filled the skies with smoke. Fire crews say it was human caused and evidence shows it was intentionally set.

Crews evacuated about 50 homes as flames moved to within 10 feet of some houses. Crews got the flames under control within 90 minutes and were putting out hotspots within two hours.

That fire burned 10 to 15 acres and firefighters say it could have been much worse.

This morning, police still have not identified a suspect. They are asking for help from any witnesses who were in the area around the time the fire started.

Investigators are looking for information about people, vehicles, or anything suspicious seen near the entrance to Ogden Canyon Tuesday morning. Anyone with information can call the Ogden Police Department at 801-395-8221.
