(KSL News) The Salt Lake County Council plans to reconsider its stance on increasing the number of jail beds.

For the past few years council members have refused to add beds unless it was absolutely necessary. Instead they pushed for alternatives to jail time.

However some officials tell the Deseret Morning News the alternative programs have little accountability for inmates.

The council now plans to create a new master plan for the county's criminal and social justice programs.
