(KSL News) A West Jordan city councilman who's up for re-election has returned a controversial donation.

The Deseret Morning News reports Rob Bennett gave back $1,500 donated by Peterson Development. Bennett accepted the money shortly before voting to allow the company to put more homes on a property originally deemed too small.

Bennett says the donation did not sway his vote and that he is sorry for any appearance of impropriety.
