With Tuesday's election approaching, we thought it might be helpful to recap the position of the KSL Editorial Board on several important ballot questions.
-On school vouchers, KSL has concluded that a broad taxpayer supported voucher system should not be implemented in Utah. Vouchers should be rejected - then citizens should work toward making practical changes in the state's education system that would benefit all Utah children for generations to come.
-KSL encourages voters in Salt Lake City to approve a vital $192 million dollar public safety bond. While the amount of the bond prompts "sticker shock," KSL thinks the argument for authorizing the bond is compelling.
-KSL urges voters in Davis and Weber counties and several Box Elder County communities to authorize a quarter-cent sales tax increase for meeting the area's rapidly expanding transportation needs. In our view, voters would be terribly shortsighted to reject it.
-While not taking a firm position for or against the effort by several communities to break away from the large Jordan School District, KSL wonders whether this is the best time to approve such a radical change. It's a question each voter must carefully weigh.
