SALT LAKE CITY - The Jazz lost out on what is considered one of the deepest drafts in recent memory by the Golden State Warriors staying in the top- seven and thus keeping their pick.
The Jazz received the protected pick via the Deron Williams trade from the Nets who obtained it from the Warriors in 2008. The Jazz will still have a chance to get the Warriors pick in the following two years. It will be top-seven protected again next year and top-eight in 2014. If the Jazz don't obtain a first in those years they will get the Warriors second-round picks in 2014 and 2016.
The Jazz have the 46th pick in the draft this year which is a second-round pick. They lost their first-round pick to the Timberwolves in the Al Jefferson trade that was lottery protected.
The Warriors won only five games after going 18-21 to end the season 23-43 and won a coin-flip with the Raptors to obtain the seventh-spot in the draft.
Jazz General Manager Kevin O'Connor said at the end of the season that there were no plans to get into the lottery if the Jazz didn't get the pick, but didn't specifically rule out the possibility either.
