Strawberry reservoir is much larger today than it was, when it was first established. Back in July 1912, exactly 100 years ago, the Strawberry Dam was completed in what is called the narrows and started holding back the 283,000 acre foot reservoir. Our question tonight is...What happened in 1985 that increased the size of Strawberry from 283,000 acre feet to well over 1 million acre feet? The answer, up next when KSL Outdoors, powered by Ford returns.
Our question tonight is...What happened in 1985 that increased the size of Strawberry from 283,000 acre feet to well over 1 million acre feet? Here's the answer...
Enlargement of Strawberry began in 1973 when the Soldier Creek Dam, located approximately 8 miles downstream of the Strawberry Dam, was completed. The old Strawberry Dam and Indian Creek Dike were subsequently breached in 1985, and the original reservoir was enlarged to over 1 million acre-feet. It also flooded many of the old fish camps around the reservoir, which were replaced with a number of campgrounds, boat ramps, day-use areas and marinas that we use today.
