ST. GEORGE — A St. George man was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana shortly after he shot an intruder with an AK-47 rifle.
Stephan Prokay told police that four people broke into his apartment Thursday morning, and he shot one of them.
Police say the 20-year-old Prokay was within the law to shoot the intruder, but it's a crime in Utah to have a gun and illegal drugs.
Officers say the odor of marijuana was detected during an investigation at the scene of the incident, and Prokay was arrested after a search of his home turned up marijuana.
The four suspects, including the gunshot victim, have been arrested on suspicion of trying to rob him. The wounded man remained at a Cedar City hospital after being shot in the leg.
