LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Cache County's Air Quality Task Force is getting a thumbs up from the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

EPA officials say the task force is making strides to improve Cache Valley air and curb pollution during winter inversions. Officials honored the task force with an award and say the group's efforts are "way ahead" of other communities.

Bear River Health Department scientist and task force member Grant Koford says the group has focused on pollution protection and prevention.

One project worked with valley high schools to reduce the number of cars in school parking lots during inversions. Another studied the effects of poor air quality on children's lung function.
