OGDEN — Those seeking to recover the body of a 4-year-old Layton boy who fell into the Weber River Saturday saw their efforts hampered Tuesday.
Ogden Police Lt. Danielle Croyle said the river conditions were keeping divers from entering the water to continue the search for Corbin Anderson.
"The water levels of the Weber River have risen," she said. "Given that and the swift nature and the water temperatures, we are not going to be having search and rescue divers in the water from this point on."
Kayakers, canines and search and rescue officers were still combing the banks of the river searching for any evidence or leads as to the boy's whereabouts.
Corbin fell into the river about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. He was standing on a rock near the bank of the river, near 300 W. 24th Street, posing for a family picture when he fell. His father jumped in immediately after him but couldn't find his son.
Croyle said searchers planned to continue their efforts until sunset Tuesday, but no official search was expected to take place Wednesday. Ogden police, who have been assisted by the Weber County sheriff's search and rescue teams, have yet to decide if or when to give up the search altogether.
"That is something that we haven't even discussed," she said. "We are still actively in the recovery process — trying to recover the lost child."
Meanwhile, they are trying to keep those assisting in that effort safe.
"Our divers are volunteers and they were more than willing, generous and dedicated to helping us," Croyle said. "In this process, some of their gear was damaged. There is debris along the river. The river is swift, the water is cold and it's not a conducive environment. We don't want anyone else injured."
