OGDEN — Ogden Police put a half-dozen accused prostitutes behind bars in a sting operation over the weekend. They say they found most of their suspects fairly easily with the help of the internet.

Undercover officers put out messages and answered ads over the Internet, taking more than a dozen unsuspecting escorts to their sting operation.

"We reached out and made contact with those individuals, they responded to our location," said Lt. Scott Conley. "We partnered with a local apartment complex. "

Police say many of the meet-ups were set up online through sites like Craigslist.

"That's one of the problems we're having with the availability of communication," Conley said. "It's so easy to put it out there."

Ogden police had surveillance in one room and in the other an undercover cop.

Six individuals were arrested. Conley said their ages were estimated to be between 23 and 62.

Police hope word of the sting will get more of these services out of Ogden.

"We're definitely sending a message that we don't want this type of activity taking place," Conley said.

In addition to those six arrests, two others were cited for not having a business license. Police say since this reverse approach works, they expect do it again in the future.
