DELLE, Tooele County — An 83-year-old man was injured Sunday afternoon when he crashed his small plane while taxiing to a remote air strip.
Witnesses say the plane hit a large mound of dirt and tipped forward and crashed nose first into the ground.
Andrew Fresh, of Layton, was riding motorcycles in the area with his family and witnessed the accident. He also rushed to the man's aid and helped him from the plane.
Fresh said the pilot was conscious and walking, but "he had some pretty severe head lacerations and pretty good trauma to one arm and a leg."
"He had a loss of memory from taking a pretty good lump to the head, he said.
Fresh rendered first aid until emergency crews arrived.
