Jon Dunn Reporting If you haven't filed your taxes yet, who is going to prepare that return for you? And how do you know your tax preparer is following the rules?
At H&R Block in Salt Lake City, tax preparers are busy working down to the wire finishing returns. How do you know if your tax preparer is giving you a deduction they shouldn't?
"When you're dealing with taxes there's a lot of places errors can be made," says H&R Block district manager Steven Moore. He says a preparer will always fight for the best deal for you.
"If you're getting references from friends that tell you they found a guy who found all kinds of write-offs and other things for them, you need to be a little bit cautious," Moore says.
Moore says if you need to, ask for another preparer to take a look at your return.
