SALT LAKE CITY — Students cleaned up the mess after some graffiti artists went on a tagging spree on several houses at the University of Utah's Fraternity Row.

Taylor Rieck with Pi Kappa Alpha says the taggers struck during spring break, when everyone was away. The "artists" spray-painted gang letters on buildings, poles and dumpsters, hitting the Pikes the hardest. Their gold "K" out front is covered in green with the word "killa" beneath it.

He admits damage could have been worse, but says the graffiti is annoying.

"Painting it will be kind of a pain, and we may have to take the letters off because they're welded onto the wall. It's looking like it will round to $100 or $200 to get it all taken care of completely," he said.

He doesn't think this was a prank by other fraternities.

"We all have kind of like a code so that we don't take things too far. It's all in good fun and games, but most of the other houses got vandalized as well," Rieck said.

Estimated damage and cleanup costs may total $1,000.

No arrests have been announced yet.
