(KSL News) One of the most divisive issues facing our state right now--school vouchers-- was the focus of a forum tonight at Utah Valley State College.
Advocates for and against vouchers argued their cases. They differ on where funding would have the most impact for schools: in state budgets or in the hands of parents.
Marilyn Kofford, with Utahns for Public Schools, said, "We are the lowest per-pupil funding in the nation. How long do we have to keep waiting to get funding for public education?"
Paul Mero, with the Sutherland Institute, said, "It won't work just to throw more money at a situation. The kids who need it most are already the most expensive in the system, so more money isn't going to solve their problem."
Utah voters will go to the polls next month to decide on vouchers. Utah has received nationwide attention for what's considered the most comprehensive voucher experiment in the country.
