(KSL News) No new check cashing businesses will be allowed to open in Salt Lake County for the next six months.
Last night County Council members approved the freeze in order to stop the proliferation of the businesses in incorporated areas of the country until a permanent plan can be put in place.
Several cities within the county -- including West Valley, South Salt Lake, Draper, Sandy and Midvale -- already have put caps on the number of check cashing businesses allowed within their limits.
