SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake County Councilman, Randy Horiuchi has been upgraded from serious to fair condition after his stroke last Friday. Mr. Horiuchi continues to recuperate at University of Utah Hospital. "Randy is alert and enjoying monitoring the Jazz and the presidential candidates," says Frances, Randy's wife, and professor at Weber State University.

The family thanks all those who have expressed concern. Mr. Horiuchi is unable to accept visitors at this time, and the family asks that their privacy is respected as he continues to recover.

No additional updates were given, and there is no information regarding when Horiuchi will be released.

Horiuchi was the founder and a General Partner of Focus Government Services, but cut ties after being elected to the County Commission in 1991. He was later elected to the new County Council in 2002, and has been serving in the position since that time.

Among his other duties, Horiuchi is also currently the vice president of development with Mountain West Small Business Finance, and he has also served as President of the Salt Lake Japanese American Citizens League, and the State Democratic Party Chair to name a few.
