PARK CITY — A young University of Utah student died Sunday after a fall from a ski lift at Canyons' Ski Resort.

Resort spokesman Steve Pastorino said the woman was on the High Meadow chair lift when she fell at 11:49 a.m. Despite quick ski patrol response and on-board care during a medical flight to an area hospital, the woman was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Pastorino said a prior medical condition may have contributed to the woman's fall or death.

Her name was not released pending notification of her parents and family, who live out of state, he said.

The High Meadow lift is a ski slope used by beginners. The lift is as low as 15 feet off the ground to as high as 50 to 75 feet.

Pastorino said the woman's death is under investigation by the Summit County Sheriff's Office and the Utah State Medical Examiner's office.
