(KSL News) Prosecutors have formally filed charges against a West Valley City man for shooting his neighbor's dog.

Gary Griffiths has been charged with aggravated assault, animal cruelty and discharge of a firearm within city limits.

Police say Griffiths lured the dog into his yard and shot it while a 3-year-old child watched. He then pointed the gun at the dog's owner when confronted.

The dog survived the shooting, but has since been euthanized because of his injuries.
