(KSL News) Olympian Derek Parra wished eight Utah athletes good luck today in their quest to win the gold at the Special Olympics.

Parra told the athletes, "Everyone who helped you get to this point is proud of you. So go make us proud, have fun, enjoy the moment, and I wish you the best of luck."

The athletes left for Los Angeles to join more than 400 others from across America. They will compete in the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in China.

Those games start next week.
