PLAIN CITY, Weber County — A Harrisville man died early Saturday in a wrong-way crash on I-15 near Smith & Edwards.
A release by the Utah Highway Patrol said Larry Caldwell, 68, died after he was ejected in the 12:30 a.m. crash in the northbound lanes of the interstate.
Three other people in involved in the accident were initially listed in critical condition at area hospitals, but two of the people have since been released. The remaining victim is still receiving medical care for non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers say Caldwell's station wagon entered the interstate heading south in the north bound lanes, traveling about a half mile before it glanced off two other cars. The impact propelled his vehicle into another car, hitting it nearly head-on, causing it to split in half.
Accident investigators say impairment does not seem to be a factor in the deadly crash.
