WEST JORDAN — Four members of a family, including two boys ages 1 and 3, were critically injured in a head-on collision Christmas Eve that also left the driver of the other vehicle with life-threatening injuries.

West Jordan Police spokesman J.C. Holt said the accident happened at 6:07 p.m. Saturday at 9000 South and 1000 West where a Suburban with a single male occupant inexplicably crossed the median.

That vehicle struck a small car head-on with a mother, father and two boys inside. The smaller car erupted into flames.

The accident led to the closure of 9000 South for several hours and prompted response by three medical helicopters.

Holt said all people involved sustained critical injuries and were taken to area hospitals.
