HOLLADAY — A 52-year-old man faces firearms and intoxication charges after police say he shot at a friend who tried to stop him from driving drunk.
Jon Leland Sheppard arrived at a friend's house drunk and upset Nov. 24 and became argumentative, according to charges filed Monday in 3rd District Court. When Sheppard got in his car to leave, the friend tried to stop him, the charges state.
Sheppard "became belligerent and pulled out a gun," according to the charges, and fired one round toward his friend. He then fired four more shots into the ground before the friend could wrestle him to the ground, the charges state.
A second man who was going to help drive Sheppard home was inside when he heard three gunshots and Sheppard and the other friend arguing, according to the charges. That man went outside and broke up the fight, the charges state.
Sheppard faces one count of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, and a class C misdemeanor intoxication charge. He is free on $5,000 bail.
