Normally, the punishment for overdue library books is pretty minor; warnings, maybe a fine. But, jail time?

Davis County Library Assistant Director Jerry Meyer says Brooke Peckman checked out almost $800 worth of books, DVDs and books on tape. Davis County Deputy Attorney Steve Major says the judge may have been leniant if she wasn't facing drug charges also.

Library officials say out of two million checkouts, only four cases had to be reported to the county last year. Peckman is reportedly telling officials she lost the items.
