(KSL News) -- A Salt Lake County middle school is hoping to combat a very loud, highly infectious illness.
Several middle schools and high schools have seen a significant increase in the number of students with whooping cough. The Salt Lake Valley Health Department says pertussis cases have gone up 400 percent in the last four years.
Clayton Middle School plans to protect its students by offering a whooping cough vaccination clinic. The clinic will benefit students whose insurance will not cover immunization costs.
Students' family members and school staff can also receive a shot for a cost of 43 dollars.
The school will hold a vaccination clinic on Wednesday from 10 in the morning until 2 that afternoon.
