Tom Callan, KSL Newsradio There's a big fundraiser scheduled for this weekend to benefit Special Olympics, and the event is being held on I-15.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run hopes to crowd I-15 between Layton and the Rocky Mountain Raceway with up to 50 tractor-trailers. "Like you saw in the show ‘Convoy,' or on ‘Smokey and the Bandit,' we are literally going to have a convoy of semi trucks," explained Lt. Lee Perry with the Utah State Police.
Perry says each truck is expected to donate $100 to Special Olympics.
So, when should drivers avoid I-15 tomorrow? "Between 1 and 2 o'clock you're going to see that convoy driving down I-15 and out I-80 to the Rocky Mountain Raceway," Perry said.
When the trucks pull in to the raceway, the athletes will pick their favorite truck.
