STANSBURY PARK, Utah (AP) -- A Utah Highway Patrol trooper is in serious condition this afternoon after crashing into a vehicle in Tooele County.

It happened near the intersection of Highway 36 and Bates Canyon Road in Stansbury Park.

Authorities say the trooper was responding to an emergency call when the officer crashed into the vehicle.

Officials say a woman and two children were inside the vehicle. Both the woman and trooper were flown to the hospital with serious injuries. The children were taken by ambulance.

Authorities have shut down Highway 36 in the area.

So far, the cause of the accident is unknown.
