ST. LOUIS, Mar 21, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A Missouri woman once accused of selling her twin infant daughters on the Internet may get to see the 5-year-olds under a court order, a report said.
Tranda Wecker, who has since remarried and changed her name to Tranda Conley, will be allowed to see the twins once a therapist has told them they are adopted and have a birth mother, a St. Louis judge ruled Monday.
Her attorney told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Wecker will not seek custody of twin daughters Kiara and Keyara, who remain with a foster family, despite a 2004 Missouri Supreme Court decision that overturned the termination of Wecker's parental rights.
"I thought at the time I was doing the best thing for all of us," said the mother, who has steadfastly denied taking any money.
The case sparked an international custody battle in 2001 when the twins were adopted by a California couple and then by a Welsh couple.
Charges were brought but later dropped against an Internet adoption broker.
