(KSL News) An award-winning documentary has come to Utah for a special screening this weekend.
'39 Pounds of Love' tells the story of Ami, an American-born Israeli, who has a rare form of muscular dystrophy, SMA.
At age 36, he weighs only 39 pounds but he is an internationally-recognized graphic artist. This film traces his journey back to the U.S. where he searches for the doctor who told him and his family he would not live past the age of six.
Asaf Shaul, Ami's caretaker: "With the movie, people are kind of opened and they don't see the disability anymore. This is exactly what Ami projects also in his life."
Asaf Shaul will be at that screening tomorrow night at the Salt Lake City Library at 6 pm. Also in attendance, SMA and disabilities activist and Assistant Attorney General, Steve Mikita.
