SAN FRANCISCO — The Cal Golden Bears rolled the Utah Utes at AT&T Ball Park, 34-10, leaving the Utes winless in the Pac-12.
Here is a look at some of the game's top performers:
Zach Maynard:
Zach Maynard looked to be a superior athlete as he led the Bears to a dominating win over the Utes. Maynard kept drives alive by scrambling for first downs on quarterback keepers. He also scrambled in the backfield allowing his receivers time to get open, which led to more Cal completions.
Keenan Allen:
Keenan Allen was the leading receiver for the Bears. Maynard seemed to target Allen and found him on a number of occasions. The entire receiving unit seemed to be unstoppable. Allen finished the game with eight catches for 78 yards and one touchdown.
Cal’s defensive line:
Cal’s defensive line simply stopped Utah’s running game. It loaded the box and dared Hayes to throw the ball. It shut down the run and put enough pressure on Hayes to take away the passing game, too.
Isi Sofele:
Isi Sofele led the way for the Bears' rushing game. The Cal running game controlled the second half, eating up the clock and contributing to even more Cal points. Sofele finished the game with 84 yards on 26 carries and rushed for one touchdown
Utes’ Special Teams:
Reggie Dunn had a great return in the second half, giving the Utes great field possession to start the second half. Dunn latter bailed out John Hayes on a long ball attempt, preventing what would've otherwise been another Ute turnover.
The special teams were also responsible for the Utes’ first points and also provided an exciting fourth-down conversion on a fake punt.
