NEW ORLEANS, Mar 16, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A crew from the Louisiana State Museum has salvaged three pianos from the flooded New Orleans home of Fats Domino.
The museum is negotiating with Domino to restore the two Steinway pianos and an electric Wurlitzer damaged in Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans Times Picayune reported. The museum wants to include the instruments in a national touring exhibit about the August hurricane and subsequent flooding.
Domino was plucked from the floods by rescuers Aug. 29, but his home was gutted by the raging waters.
One white Steinway was found upside down and legless with only a few keys left while the smaller electric baby grand Wurlitzer was found in his upstairs bedroom next to a large jar of pickled pigs feet, the newspaper said.
Domino, 78, and his family have been staying in an undisclosed location since their home was devastated by the storm, the newspaper said.
